Running short-term rentals in Mont-Tremblant, where the town checks the zone before Quebec issues a number
If you manage or clean short-term rentals in Mont-Tremblant, two offices have to say yes. The town has interim control by-laws in force, and under them a tourist residence has to be a detached single-family house in a zone that allows the use. Quebec then registers every unit rented to tourists for 31 days or less, and it asks for a document from the municipality confirming the zoning before it looks at the application. Upbridge's AI operations assistant, Cleo, works over WhatsApp with vacation rental operators and cleaning companies and organizes the cleanings and the inventory for each place.
The rules here
The province runs the registry and the town decides where a tourist residence may exist. We read both pages, in French, on October 24, 2026, and amounts are in Canadian dollars.
| Topic | What it says | Status | Since | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Provincial registration | Any unit offered to tourists for pay, for periods of 31 days or less, has to be registered as a general establishment, a youth establishment or a principal residence establishment. The 2026 fee is $156 for a general establishment and $54 for a principal residence. | In force | Page updated September 24, 2026 | Gouvernement du Québec |
| What the application needs | An official document from the municipality confirming that the project complies with the zoning in force, proof of civil liability insurance of at least $2,000,000 per event, and, in a divided co-ownership building, the syndicate's authorization form. A principal residence applicant also proves the address is their main home. | In force | Page updated September 24, 2026 | Gouvernement du Québec |
| Losing a number | A registration number can be refused, suspended or cancelled if, in the three years before the application, the operator was convicted of an offence under the Tourist Accommodation Act or a related law. | In force | Page updated September 24, 2026 | Gouvernement du Québec |
| Town zoning | Because interim by-laws are in force, the town asks owners to confirm with its planning department where a tourist residence is allowed. Under the interim control by-law the building must be a detached single-family house, with one dwelling on its own lot, and any other type of residence is refused. | In force | Town page not dated | Ville de Mont-Tremblant |
| Town steps and tax | The planning department decides whether a change-of-use certificate is needed, then fills in the municipal compliance form that goes to the provincial registry. The town treats a tourist residence as a lodging business, and a separate tax rate applies to it. | In force | Town page not dated | Ville de Mont-Tremblant |
The town's page does not say when its interim by-laws took effect or how long they last, and we did not find the lodging tax rate on a page we could open. This is not legal or tax advice, and Upbridge does not file anything for you: no registrations and no tax returns.
How it works on the ground
A condo near the village or a semi-detached chalet does not qualify under the interim control by-law, so a manager taking on a new owner should ask about the building type before anything else. The town's map tool shows the zone, and the planning department gives the final answer.
Tremblant announced on September 2, 2026 a $42.5 million project: a learning area on the Versant Soleil this winter, and the Timber ski area, with eight trails and a high-speed lift, for 2027-2028. Time Out reported on September 15 that the learning area will sit next to the Casino Express gondola and open on weekends and in peak periods, which is when beginner families book a chalet for the weekend.
Travel Market Report also wrote that Club Med Tremblant is scheduled to open in December 2028. That is two winters away, and it will bring more beds to the same side of the mountain.
Where Upbridge fits
Between two ski weekends a chalet needs to be cleaned, restocked and checked for damage, often on a Sunday afternoon and a Friday evening. Upbridge reads the checkouts from Guesty, Hostaway, Lodgify, Uplisting or an iCal link and opens a cleaning task for each one, with a room-by-room photo checklist. You can put the fireplace, the hot tub cover and the boot room on that list, and the cleaner reports a broken item from the phone while still in the chalet.
Inventory per property counts down the firewood, the coffee and the toilet paper after every stay, so the Friday run to the store is planned from a list. Guests driving up from Montréal get the guest guide on their phone with the address, the door code and where to park in snow.
If you run a cleaning company in Mont-Tremblant
Your busiest hours are Sunday after checkout, when every chalet on your list empties at once. With the cleaning company account you see each owner's bookings together, ordered by day, so you can split the crew before Sunday morning, and the owners remain your clients.
Questions about short-term rentals in Mont-Tremblant
Can I rent a condo short term in Mont-Tremblant?
Under the town's interim control by-law, only a detached single-family house can be used as a tourist residence, so other building types are refused. The town asks owners to confirm the zone with its planning department.
Do I need to register a Mont-Tremblant rental with Quebec?
Yes, if you offer it to tourists for 31 days or less. Quebec's page, updated September 24, 2026, lists a 2026 fee of $156 for a general establishment and $54 for a principal residence.
What does the municipal compliance notice involve?
You fill in the form required by the provincial registry and send it to the town's planning department, which returns it to you once it has checked the zoning and any change-of-use certificate. You then send it with your registration.
