Huasca de Ocampo, Hidalgo

Running vacation rentals in Huasca de Ocampo, Mexico, the first Pueblo Mágico and now a cabin market

If you manage vacation rentals in Huasca de Ocampo, you're in Hidalgo's largest Airbnb market, with 320 active listings from October 2025 to September 2026, up 30% on the year before, and 69% of them are cabins, according to AirROI. Almost half your guests come from Mexico City, and they stay 2.3 nights on average. Upbridge's AI operations assistant, Cleo, works over WhatsApp with vacation rental operators and cleaning companies and organizes the cleanings and the inventory for each place.

The rules here

On October 23, 2026 we looked for any rules the Huasca de Ocampo town council sets for cabins and houses rented by the night.

TopicWhat it saysStatusSinceSource
Municipal rules We found no municipal regulation for platform lodging. Of the 320 listings AirROI tracks, none shows a permit or registration number. No specific law Searched October 23, 2026 AirROI
State rules The lodging tax, the state tourism registry and the guest ID requirement are Hidalgo rules, covered on the state page. In force See Hidalgo Hidalgo

What the platforms withhold for federal income tax and VAT is the same nationwide, so it's explained on the Mexico-wide page.

This is not legal or tax advice, and Upbridge does not file anything for you: no registrations and no tax returns.

How it works on the ground

The typical rental in Huasca is a whole cabin. AirROI finds 82% of listings rent the entire place, 73% take pets, 70% have an indoor fireplace and another 70% a fire pit. So a turnover here usually means clearing out ash, getting dog hair off the sofas and beds and leaving firewood for the next guest, on top of the regular clean.

On September 8, 2026 the Real del Monte-Huasca highway was closed between kilometers 18+900 and 19+140, after a slope gave way and buckled the pavement, and it was still closed on October 17 (Pachuca Vive). On October 8 the head of the federal transport office in Hidalgo, Pablo Octavio Olvera Sánchez, said there was no date for a full reopening because a geophysical study wasn't finished (La Jornada Hidalgo). While it stays closed, traffic goes around on the old Pachuca-Tampico road, which is windier and busier. Guests coming through Real del Monte need to hear about it before they set off, and cleaners on that side should allow extra driving time.

The average stay is 2.3 nights, and 87% of listings accept a one-night booking. December brings in the most, about 24,800 pesos per listing, and February the least, about 12,800. December guests book 37 days ahead and February guests 13, so in February bookings reach you with less than two weeks' notice.

The municipality is home to the Prismas Basálticos, columns of cooled lava in a ravine where water from the San Antonio dam falls in cascades. Entry is 100 pesos, which covers parking, the suspension bridge and the viewpoints, and the cabins and campsite inside cost extra (ADN40).

It also helps when your guest knows the booking is real. In September 2026 Hidalgo's tourism secretary said that in 2024 visitors turned up in Huasca with reservations the property had never charged for, and advised checking that a place has a national tourism registry number (La Silla Rota).

Where Upbridge fits

In the photo checklist you can make a photo of the swept fireplace and one of the stacked firewood required, and the cleaner uploads them from their phone. The final report shows when each room was finished.

While the closure lasts, we build a guest guide for each cabin with the detour along the old Pachuca-Tampico road, how to get in and how to reach the prisms. You send it to the guest, and they open it on their phone before leaving Mexico City.

With per-cabin inventory you choose what each stay uses up, firewood or trash bags for example, and it comes off the count on its own. When something runs low, the alert reaches you on WhatsApp, by email and in the app.

If you manage cabins in Huasca or clean them, Upbridge can help with what happens between a Sunday checkout and the next arrival.

If you run a cleaning company in Huasca

Nearly one listing in three in Huasca has a co-host (31%, AirROI), and with two-night stays the same cabin can need you on Sunday and again on Tuesday. The cleaning company account shows each owner's checkouts on one calendar, from their iCal or PMS. The client stays yours, and we don't charge a commission on any clean.
