Running vacation rentals in Atlixco, Mexico, where nine listings in ten take a one-night stay

More than half of Atlixco's listings are houses (54%), 16% are small hotels or boutiques and 5% are cabins, and 45% have a pool, according to AirROI. Nearly six in ten of the listings that state a check-in time use 3 p.m., and checkout is usually noon. With a pool to clean and one-night bookings, those three hours between checkout and check-in are the whole window to get the house ready.

December earns the most, about 30,500 pesos per listing, and January the least, about 15,900. December is also when the Villa Iluminada runs. The 2025 edition went from November 21 to January 7, with light displays you can walk through without an entry fee along almost two kilometers of the center, from Avenida Hidalgo through the main square to Parque Revolución (Tus Buenas Noticias). If your house is on that route, guests need to know which way to drive in on Villa nights.

The rest of the year has its dates too. In February 2026 the mayor, Ariadna Ayala, said Atlixco had more than 2.8 million visitors in 2025, up 5.7%, and laid out the 2026 calendar, with tulip season at the Cabrera nurseries in February, La Elotada corn festival from August 13 to 16, the 61st anniversary of the Huey Atlixcáyotl in September and the Valle de Catrinas from October 9 (Milenio).

Atlixco also has to plan around Popocatépetl. On September 11, 2025, Puebla's civil protection office forecast that ash could drift toward Atlixco and Izúcar de Matamoros (N+). For a house with a pool, an ash day means cleaning the water, the filter and the garden furniture before the next check-in.

90% of guests are from Mexico, mostly Mexico City (31%) and Puebla (14%), yet 36% of reviews are in English and 5% in French (AirROI).
