How it works on the ground
Almost everything in Bernal is one or two nights. In August 2026 the average stay was 1.5 nights, and only July went above three, according to AirROI. A room can be cleaned four or five times in a week, and with checkout at noon and check-in at 3 p.m., which is what more than 80% of listings set, the turnover has a three-hour window.
49.7% of listings are private rooms and 38.9% sit in boutique hotels, according to AirROI. Only 44% charge a separate cleaning fee, and the most common one is 175 pesos, so on a one-night room the cleaning nearly always comes out of what the guest paid to sleep there.
The rock sets the busy dates. The trail to the summit was closed for about a year because of landslide risk and reopened for the 2026 spring equinox, held March 14 to 16 and March 21 to 22. Ezequiel Montes officials expected 15,000 to 25,000 visitors and hotel occupancy close to 100% (N+). For summer 2026, the town's tourism office expected up to 10,000 visitors per weekend, mostly from Mexico City and Texas (El Congresista). Both numbers were forecasts.
In 2023, UnoTV put Bernal about 50 minutes from Querétaro city and 2 hours 45 minutes from Mexico City, and listed two fixed-date fiestas: San Sebastián on January 20, with a procession to the summit, and the Santa Cruz from May 1 to 5. AirROI agrees that Mexico City is the top origin, with 28.7% of reviewers.
